Anatomy Of An Indie Writer's Book Launch.

Updated: Aug 27
1. Write the book. Edit the book. Lots and lots. It will seem never ending. But then one day, it does. Move on to the next step.
2. Make a book cover. Or hire someone. Realize though, you are a control freak. Do it yourself. Get a proof copy and realize, you aren’t a graphic designer, but you are still a control freak. Get better at it.
3. Figure out how to sell it. That’s where things get confusing because, you just wrote a damn book, now I have to sell it?
4. CALL YOUR FRIENDS.
5. Your friends have friends, many of them are super talented. They put together a 90s band in an insanely short amount of time. Decide on a band name: DOLL PARTS. Which, ironically, the setllist is devoid of any Hole covers. Because, we all lived with her in the 80s. The scars still run deep.
6. Find a venue. Luckily, we know someone and we tag team him. He acquiesces to our demands.
7. Go to Lippmann’s and buy streamers, lots of them. And balloons. They make people incredibly happy.
8. Make sure you have plenty of books to sell. Plan ahead. Add a QR code on a pretty bookmark so your friends know what to do the next morning. They will text you asking how to access the QR code. Tell them.
9. Have the event. You’re not sure its running smoothly because Darrell’s pedal just crapped out during the Edwyn Collins song and you are busy signing books. Then you realize there aren’t any books left on the table. Success!
10. Make sure your kids bring their friends. They will clean up all the alcohol soaked soggy streamers and carry your stuff to your car. It was smart to have kids.
